NOTICE TO MARINERS No 13 – 2010

Friars Bay Long Sea Outfall Pipeworks – Update 1

This Notice should be read in conjunction with NTM No.9 – 2010.

Mariners are advised that the first phase of the pipeline works and dredging activities will be completed on about Wednesday 26th May 2010. This phase has involved digging the trench ready for the pipe to be laid.
Between now and that date, the dredger “Nordic Giant “will be working in the northern section of the buoyed dredge area.
Absolutely no vessel is to pass north of the dredger , that is, between the dredger and the shoreline.

The second phase of the operation is expected to commence in August, involving the dredger “Manu Pekka”, which will be laying the pipe and backfilling the trench. This phase is expected to be completed in early September.

Between the 26th May, when the “Nordic Giant” will depart the area, and the completion of the works in September, charted depths in the northern section of the working area will be reduced by up to 3m.

Mariners are therefore advised not to come within 1 nautical mile of the coast when transitting this area.

For the months of June and July, there will be no vessels working or monitoring the area, but the IALA system Cardinal buoys supplemented by markerbuoys will remain in position.
