Borehole Sampling Works, West Quay, Newhaven

Mariners are advised that work will commence on Thursday 23rd February 2012 to drill two boreholes into the river bed at positions between the Fish & Flake Ice Society Stage and Stage 10. The work is expected to take approximately 10 days.

The work will be carried out by using a pontoon of dimensions 11m x 6m which will be manoeuvred into position using the Cutts Marine vessels “Coastrunner” and “Buccaneer”. The pontoon will be fixed into position with mooring ropes and left on-site for the duration of the works.

Once in position, the pontoon will not be a hazard to navigation and will therefore not be marked or illuminated at night. The moorings will be regularly checked and maintained by Cutts Marine Services.

Vessels are requested to pass the location at slow speed and under no circumstances moor alongside the pontoon. Mariners encountering any problems should call Newhaven Port Control on VHF channel 12 (call sign Newhaven Radio) or telephone 01273 612926. For further information Mariners may call Newhaven Port Control. Call sign “Newhaven Radio” – VHF Channel 12. Tel. 01273 612926.

Site Investigation Works Newhaven Outer Harbour

Notice is hereby given that on or about Monday 13th February 2012, Borehole Investigation works will commence in the main Outer Port Channel and the Narrows.

The work involves drilling boreholes at the locations shown on the attached plan using a spud-leg crane barge and accompanying tug. Once located in position at each borehole location, the barge will not be able to move whilst the drilling is taking place and will effectively be a fixed installation and therefore not be able to manoeuvre. Working hours will be approximately 1000hrs until 2000hrs each day (working around the Ferry arrival and departure times). The barge and tug will lay alongside the south end of East Quay when not working.

These operations will restrict the width of the navigable channel available to vessels and your co-operation and patience is requested in ensuring minimum delay and disruption, whilst still maintaining safe passage through the port.

The crane barge will be the GPS CONTRACTOR (27m x 17m) and the attendant tug will be the MV Zeepia (21m x 6m). Both vessels will exhibit lights and shapes in accordance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. The tug will be maintaining a listening watch on Ch.12.

Masters and others in charge of craft are warned to navigate with caution and pay strict attention to instructions issued to them by Newhaven Port Control. Call sign “Newhaven Radio” – VHF Channel 12.

Tel. 01273 612926.
