NOTICE TO MARINERS No.24 – 2010

Notice of Works at North Quay – Newhaven Harbour

Notice is hereby given that demolition and renovation works at North Quay will commence on Monday 29th November 2010 and will continue for 4 months.
These works will be mainly shore based and will therefore pose minimal obstruction to vessel navigation. A floating boom will be positioned in the river during working hours to prevent debris escaping up or down river. A safety boat will be in attendance at these times. The boom will not interfere with small vessel traffic, but will need to be removed or adjusted to allow commercial vessels to transit the area.
The works will not affect the normal operation of the commercial berths as the contractors will liaise with the North Quay Berth Operators and with the Port Authority at all times.
Works schedule is as follows:-
No.1 Berth (Newhaven Roadstone) – 29th November 2010 to 10th February 2011. No.2 Berth (Tarmac) – 10th January 2011 to 2nd March 2011. Swinging Basin eastern banks – 16th February 2011 to 30th March 2011.

Notice of Works to The Narrows Fendering – Newhaven Harbour
Notice is hereby given that works to repair the storm damage caused to the wooden
timber fendering on the western side of the Narrows and to the sheet piling at the
north end of the East Pier will commence as soon as possible and will last for
several weeks.
These works will be mainly shore based and will therefore pose minimal obstruction
to vessel navigation. There will at times be the need for a safety boat standing by in
the area.
For the duration of the works, any temporary construction that may be required to
extend out into the river from the Narrows fendering will not hamper normal
navigation and will be marked by red lights.
Masters and others in charge of craft are warned to navigate with caution and pay
strict attention to instructions issued to them by Newhaven Port Control.

Dredging Campaign – November/December 2010 – Newhaven Harbour
Notice is hereby given that maintenance dredging operations will commence on
Friday 26th November 2010. Dredging of the Outer Harbour is expected to continue
for one week.
The dredging campaign will be carried out by the trailer suction dredger
“WD Mersey”, which will exhibit lights and shapes in accordance with the
International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
Masters and others in charge of craft are warned to navigate with caution and pay
strict attention to instructions issued to them by Newhaven Port Control.
