NOTICE TO MARINERS   No 15 – 2010

Friars Bay Long Sea Outfall Pipeworks – Update 2

This Notice should be read in conjunction with NTM No.9 – 2010 and NTM No.13 – 2010.

Mariners are advised that phase 2 of the pipeline works and trench backfilling activities will commence around the 6th August 2010 and will continue into October 2010. These works are been carried out by Land & Marine/Westminster Dredging Co. Joint Venture on behalf of Southern Water.

Mariners are reminded that the works area is approximately 3 miles west of Newhaven and is marked by IALA system Cardinal buoys supplemented by markerbuoys extending from the coast to 2 miles offshore. Vessels are not to enter the works area unless specifically cleared to do so.

The vessels used during this phase will include the backhoe dredger “Manu Pekka”, grab barge “Strekker”, trailing suction dredger “Sospan Dau” and attendant tugs “Tarka 3” and “Llandwyn Island”. There will also be other tugs, barges and workboats involved as the works progress.

This will result in increased traffic between Newhaven and the works area throughout the period and all vessels must keep clear of the works vessels which will exhibit signals as per International Regulations.

A listening watch will be kept on channel 16 on a 24 hour basis as the activities are 24 hours, 7 days a week. All vessels are to keep a careful lookout and avoid passing into the buoyed area unless cleared beforehand.
